At Istanbul Kültür University, the Gender Equality Commission operates to ensure the implementation of the principles of diversity, equality, inclusion, and human rights across the campus. The commission is chaired by the Vice Rector and carries out its activities in line with the university’s Gender Equality Action Plan and Gender Equality Policy.
The primary role of the commission is to develop policies and implementation recommendations that enable academic and administrative staff, as well as students, to pursue their education, research, and careers without facing discrimination. In this context, the commission organizes awareness trainings, seminars, and institutional reporting activities to strengthen equality and inclusion within the university.
The Gender Equality Commission has prepared and implemented the 2023–2027 Gender Equality Action Plan, ensuring its integration across the entire university. The plan aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and encompasses actions in education, research, governance, and community engagement to promote equal representation, equal opportunity, awareness initiatives, and safe campus policies. The implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the plan are coordinated by the Commission, with annual evaluation reports supporting continuous improvement.
Additionally, all policy development processes at the university are carried out with a commitment to human rights, equal opportunities, and gender equality. The commission also provides advisory support to the university administration in these areas and contributes to strategic planning related to equality and inclusion.
