Istanbul Kültür University continuously improves its physical, technological, and social accessibility standards in line with its “Accessible University” vision, ensuring the full and equal participation of individuals with disabilities in campus life. In this context, accessible facilities have been established across the campus in the areas of education, transportation, social life, and safety.
All buildings are equipped with front and back yard ramps designed in accordance with international slope standards. Accessible restroom cabins with appropriately positioned sinks and mirrors are available in both men’s and women’s restrooms. Elevators are labeled for priority use by individuals with disabilities, and stair lifts provide safe access between floors. In addition, to ensure that students and staff with disabilities can easily access administrative units, mobility assistance systems have been installed at the entrances of administrative offices located in the back yard of the Ataköy Campus. Assistance call bells, placed at various points across the campus, allow individuals with limited mobility to request immediate help when needed.
Furthermore, special seating areas are designated for wheelchair users in classrooms and conference halls, while directional and informational signage has been designed in accordance with universal design principles. Academic and administrative units are equipped with infrastructure and tools tailored to meet the needs of individuals with visual or hearing impairments.
The “Faculty Member Guide” prepared by the Istanbul Kültür University Disability Support Unit serves as a resource for academic staff to ensure that students with disabilities can fully and equally participate in academic life. The guide provides detailed instructions on necessary accommodations in teaching and examination practices, accessible teaching methods, and confidentiality principles. It also includes sample practices for classroom arrangements, exam modifications, and communication approaches tailored to different types of disabilities. This guide aims to promote an inclusive education culture among academic staff and ensure the full participation of students with disabilities in all academic processes.
The university’s Disability Support Unit coordinates the implementation of all these accessibility measures and provides academic, psychological, and social support to students. In this regard, accessibility improvements are regularly reviewed and integrated into the campus infrastructure to ensure continuous enhancement and inclusivity.
